#️⃣Time
time gives dimension
Time helps give dimension to every living thing. It allows you to put off chores that you know can be done later. It makes you rush to set up camp before it gets dark. It makes a general act to get his defenses in place before the enemy arrives. It makes a woman want to have children while she still has time. Time is one element that helps shape the nature of everything. Even a moth that emerges from its cocoon to live a life with wings for only a single day must mate in that day and lay eggs or there will be no more of its kind.
time drifts over us
We all hate what we become. I’m not the only one; I have seen women staring at themselves in restaurant mirrors while their husbands are away, women under their own spell as they see someone they do not recognize. I have seen men back from war, squinting at themselves in shopwindows as they feel their skull beneath their skin. They thought they would shed the worst of youth and gain the best of age, but time drifted over them, sand-burying their old hopes.
time is a river
Time, the slow, measured passage of years, is not exactly what we think it is. Humans tend to break time up into manageable pieces “ night and day, the turning of the seasons, the passage of years, centuries, eons ” but in actuality time is all one piece, a river flowing endlessly from the beginning toward some incomprehensible goal.
